Kulamavu Hydel Tourism Center
Kulamavu Hydel Tourism Center is located in the Idukki district of Kerala with beautiful views of the Idukki Hydroelectric Project. The Kulamavu Dam, which offers a beautiful view, is built on the Kilivillithode, a tributary of the Periyar river. The beautiful Kulamavu Dam, operated and maintained by the Kerala State Electricity Board, was completed in 1977. Idukki Reservoir consists of Idukki Arch Dam, Cheruthoni Dam and Kulamavu Dam. As a result of the construction of these three dams, an artificial reservoir (lake) with an area of 60 square kilometers has been created here.
From here the water is diverted through a long power tunnel and pressure shaft to the underground power house at Moolamattom. Kulamavu Dam and its adjoining areas are fantastic picnic spots. Boating is one of the major attractions here. The places around the dam offer great views to the tourists. But photography is not allowed at Kulamavu Dam and tourists cannot park their vehicles near the dam. The scenic beauty can be enjoyed from the Killivali Viewpoint, which is 50 meters away. Kulamavu Hydel Tourism Center is home to many birds like snake birds and kingfishers.
